Getting there…
Destination Airport: Oaxaca International Airport (OAX)
Flights often have a layover either in Texas or in Mexico City.
If you are wanting to keep flight cost down, one option is to fly on a low-cost Mexican airline such as Viva Aerobús or Volaris.
If you are on the west coast, you can find very low-cost direct flights from Tijuana airport. There is a direct entrance into the Tijuana airport from San Ysidro (US) through the Cross Border Express bridge.
FROM THE AIRPORT TO YOUR ACCOMMODATION…
I will try to coordinate with some drivers to pick people up from the airport. A ride with a private driver to your hotel/Air BnB costs around $500 pesos.
Otherwise, rides in the ‘Colectivo’ from the airport to your accommodation are about $750 pesos

As far as neighborhoods go, we think you might enjoy being near the heart of the city during the week you are there. CENTRO, JALATLACO, and XOCHIMILCO are great neighborhoods with lots of things to see, eat, and explore.
These are very walkable neighborhoods and cabs are abundant. No need to rent a car!
